A Motorcycle Jacket for All Seasons

One of the staples inside a motorcycle rider's bag of equipment is the motorcycle jacket. From the beginning, this part of motorcycle fashion was used to provide protection as well as a sense of style for the rider. The first examples of a motorcycle jacket were based mainly on aviator jackets from the early half of the 20th century and had the same short cropped style with mandarin collars seen so often in the fashions of that day.

Of course, a leather motorcycle jacket is the stereotypical jacket seen in most pictures of the motorcycle life. It should be noted, however, that there are other types of motorcycle jackets out there. The following paragraphs will describe just a few of them.

The Summer Jacket

When the days are hot and the rides are long, a lot of motorcycle riders are tempted to go without a motorcycle jacket and just wear normal street clothes. There are a number of reasons for not doing this, including safety considerations. Of course, having a motorcycle jacket that can keep you cool and allow your body to move with the ride would make wearing a jacket during the summer months that much less unbearable. That is where the summer motorcycle jacket comes into play. Usually made of a lighter, more breathable material, it allows for the protection you need and the comfort and flexibility that you want.

When the autumn and winter months roll around, having a lightweight motorcycle jacket when you're riding your bike isn't always a great idea. Having something with a little more weight to it might be a better notion. The majority of the winter motorcycle jackets that you'll see on the market today have a longer length, hitting most people at mid-thigh or just below the hip. Also, the extra thickness of the leather makes the wind a little less harsh when you're zipping down the highway

The Racing Motorcycle Jacket

If you want to make a true fashion statement, and you run with the street racing crowd, you might want to consider looking into a racing motorcycle jacket. In addition to having some great fashion colors, these jackets also offer the same flexibility and protection that you find in some of the more traditional styles.
